Sylvia and her husband, Daniel Cooley, both native Vermonters, live in Western Massachusetts with two Dachshunds, a Morgan horse, a donkey, a mini horse and two barn cats. With a background in science research and teaching, Sylvia has worked at UMass Amherst as a research assistant in sustainable agriculture, traveled to Hawaii to conduct research on the side of a volcano, and taught high school biology, environmental science, and forensic science. She is fluent in English and German. Favorite moments are spent with her young granddaughters, searching the great outdoors, going to ballet or riding lessons, drawing cartoons, and playing detective agency. She and Dan plan to move to Vermont in 2027, when the house on Ridge Road is ready for occupancy.
